Practice Areas
Redmon, Peyton & Braswell represents both businesses and individuals.
The Firm identifies eight Practice Areas.
Bankruptcy & Creditor Rights
Our Bankruptcy practice focuses on the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria. The courthouse is a 3-minute walk from our offices. Apart from the Trustee-related work, we represent primarily creditors in business bankruptcies.
Business Entities and Tax Planning
The Business Entities, Tax Planning and Real Estate practice, anchored by Gant Redmon, John Rodgers and Nick Gehrig, represents clients in the formation of their business entities—corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies—and in the ongoing operation of those entities. This legal representation extends to a broad range of business tax issues. We also assist our clients in buying and selling entities and assets.
Commercial Litigation
Redmon, Peyton & Braswell attorneys represent the Firm’s clients in litigation in the federal and state courts of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, with the focus on the Alexandria federal court and the Circuit Court for Fairfax County. The firm’s litigation expertise covers these six areas:
Criminal, DWI/DUI and Traffic Defense
Redmon, Peyton & Braswell provides criminal defense representation. Our partner, Tom Carter, has tried more than 2,000 cases—an accomplishment that places him among the most experienced trial attorneys in the United States.
Family Law
We approach these issues with a view toward minimizing expenses while being sensitive to the innumerable personal issues and passions ever present in such matters; however, we are fully prepared to litigate when necessary for the benefit of our clients.
Government Contracts
The Firm‘s trial lawyers regularly appear in the nearby Alexandria federal court and in the Fairfax County Circuit Court, the two leading business courts in Virginia. Several of our partners—Jack Coffey, Rob Marino and James Kurz—are former AmLaw 100 firm partners. Because we own a lengthy trial resume and because we are close to the federal courthouse, we often serve as local counsel in commercial and IP cases in the Alexandria federal court and in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Paul Maloof has a unique specialty in dealing with foreign judgments, both domestic and international.
Trust, Probate and Estate Planning
Our lawyers from our Trust, Probate and Estate Planning practice area represent individuals. Whether the need is for a personal will or a complex estate plan, we provide the very personal service that our clients deserve.
Real Estate
Real estate issues form a substantial part of the Redmon, Peyton & Braswell practice. Virtually all businesses and individuals will at some point need assistance in negotiating a lease or purchase of real estate or in dealing with regulatory authorities involving zoning or land use issues. Redmon, Peyton & Braswell has handled numerous development projects from single-family neighborhoods to complex commercial office buildings.
