Joshua Isaacs has been practicing law in Virginia since 2006 with a primary focus on family law, including divorce, custody, visitation, third-party visitation, support, prenuptial agreements, mediation and negotiating family law settlement agreements. Mr. Isaacs considers each specific case to assess the best approach for achieving each client’s objectives while remaining mindful of the costs. Mr. Isaacs prefers first attempting to work towards creative negotiated settlement agreements as he appreciates the burdens, both financially and emotionally, associated with contested family law litigation. Mr. Isaacs has completed the training necessary to practice Collaborative Law, a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution that focuses on empowering clients to resolve their disputes by agreement outside of court. In Collaborative Law, each party is represented by their own attorney who works along with a team of other trained professionals to help the parties try to determine client-focused solutions to the present disputed issues. In the event that settlement negotiations are not productive or practical in a particular case, Mr. Isaacs is a zealous advocate on behalf of his clients during the course of contested litigation.
Mr. Isaacs earned his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center where he served as a Senior Staff Member of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. During law school, he authored a law review article titled the “Ethical Implications of Collaborative Law,” which was published in the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics Volume 18:3 (2005). Prior to law school, Mr. Isaacs received his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis. Mr. Isaacs was selected as a Rising Star in the field of Family Law by Virginia Super Lawyers in 2015 and 2016. Mr. Isaacs is an active member of the Fairfax Bar Association along with the Collaborative Professionals of Northern Virginia (CPNV) and Virginia Collaborative Professionals (VaCP). Mr. Isaacs previously served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Fairfax Law Foundation from 2018-2019 and the President of the Board of Directors of the Fairfax County Young Lawyers Section from 2011-2012. Mr. Isaacs currently serves as a Director on both the Fairfax County Bar Association Board of Directors and the Fairfax County Law Foundation Board of Directors. In 2014, Mr. Isaacs received the Golden Gavel Emerging Leader Volunteer Award from the Fairfax Law Foundation. Mr. Isaacs also volunteers as a Conciliator for the Fairfax County Circuit Court’s Motions Conciliation Program.
Mr. Isaacs resides in Virginia with his wife and daughter.
